While a studio environment is great and needed for achieving certain looks while serving basic education needs, a specific location adds tremendously to storytelling, mood and message. It helps to easily build your versatile portfolio in a very short amount of time.
After you learned your basic tech/model trades for 1 or 2 days in the studio (applying lighting and other technical skills), we highly recommend that you opt to do the further education, hands-on training and shoots on location.
The experience to work with various mixed lighting situations, handling gear economically, interacting with models in unfamiliar spaces, and having endless compositional aspects available will improve your production skills and train your eye immensely.
